MAKEUP APPLICATION

This season is all about the natural looking make-up. And although at the time of year, we feel we need to cover up more with heavier foundations and deeper colours, I have put together some helpful hints and tips to help you get a fully covered look, but at the same time looking natural.

Foundation: There are two important factors with foundation. One is finding the right colour for your skin, and the second is applying it correctly.(see foundation article on my site)

Always test a new foundation on your cheek or jawbone, not on the back of your hand, as this is a completely different colour to your face! Try and see the foundation in as much natural light as you can. If you can barely see where it has been applied then you are probably as near to your true colour as possible.

There are some good foundations on the market that adjust the colour to your skin. so look out for those. If you have problem skin and feel you need heavier foundation, do not make the mistake of over doing it as this can make you look too made up. (see my Acne article on the site)

Concealer: Using a concealer has the same rules as foundation. if you cannot find the same shade as your foundation, then go one shade lighter. For best results use a light reflecting concealer that bounces the light away from any imperfections.

Eyes: For all colours of eyes try using neutrals and beige shadow for the coverage of the whole eye. for a deeper set look apply a soft brown or aubergine to the sockets. Always blend upwards and outwards, making sure there are no visible edges of colour. To outline the eye draw a soft brown kohl pencil or powder line close to the eyelash line as possible, and blend with a small brush. Start at the inner corners and work your way out.

Cheeks: To compliment the look use a soft apricot or pink on your cheeks. Cream blushers are a little more natural looking than powders, but use whatever you feel more comfortable with, but remember to blend either as a rigid line looks fake.

Lips: A lot of woman make the mistake of painting lipstick over their natural lip line in order to try and make their lips look bigger. However this only makes them look unnatural or that their lipstick had smudged! Try using a lip gloss with a hint of colour in it and blot with a tissue so it doesn't look like the gloss is dripping.

Lip gloss can make your lips look larger as the light catches them. Also try some of the lip enhancing lipsticks or glosses on the market if you still feel you would like a little extra help.

Dry chapped lips is a complete no no. so look after them in this cold weather by exfoliating gently and moisturising each day. Lipstick will not sit properly if they are dry and will make your lipstick look lumpy! (and not very kissable)!

Bronzing powder: Once your natural look is complete a little dusting with a bronzing powder can give you a little colour, but remember not to over do it as you do not want to look like you've just stepped of a sun bed!
